The collections of the National Library of the Czech Republic grew over the centuries and now contain some 6 million volumes. It is the largest collection in the country. Its significance and value are unique, not only in the Czech Republic but also internationally. However, the lack of adequate financial support over several years has resulted in the inability to enhance this cultural and intellectual heritage and to preserve it adequately for future generations.
